Synopsis of Episode Four:
Episode 4 of Roots is pretty rough.
This episode focuses on Kunta Kinte’s daughter, Kizzy. When we first meet her, she is a young girl, about sixteen years old. She has just fallen in love with a boy named Noah. Noah is a lot like her father – he hates being a slave and is determined to escape. Kizzy helps Noah escape and when he is recaptured, her master punishes her by selling her away from her family.
Her new master is a very creepy guy, who has hinted that he wants to own a girl like Kizzy for creepy, non-work related reasons. On the first night that he owns Kizzy, he forces himself on her. Kizzy gets pregnant and swears that she will give birth to a son who will get revenge for her from the master.
The movie does another one of those frustrating, “Eighteen Years Later…” jumps and we meet Kizzy again as a grown woman. In spite of her dreams, her son George is very close to the master and thinks of him fondly, almost like a father (which is really creepy, if you think about it!). George is learning a valuable trade – raising and training fighting chickens, which is why everybody calls him Chicken George.
Kizzy meets a charming, handsome slave from another plantation named Sam and they fall in love. They get permission to marry, but on the night before they are supposed to leave the plantation together, Kizzy changes her mind. She decides that no matter how good a man Sam is, he isn’t as strong and proud as her father was and she can’t marry him.
At the end of the episode, there is another one of those weird, change-of-mood moments. Kizzy and Chicken George tell each other how proud they are of each other, but the fact that George likes his scum-ball master so much makes the ending really weird and a little creepy.

My friend pointed out to me that we could use a Cotten gin to do the work of ten niggers sewing as we were watching Kizzy and her friend. I thought it was quite impressive later that day that so many people gathered to watch my niece arrive. And when she came I t was a glorious greeting. Everyone cheered. It was quite nice to give her a big hug. I was happy to see she was so happy to reunite with Kizzy. Of course as I thought they were talking about old times and they were quick to run off to play together or whatever they do
ReplyDeleteI certainly hope they have a good time together. I think they will. I will later ask her about her day with Kizzy. I bet she would say something like I loved playing with her. We hit it off as soon as we saw eachother. If that doesn't happen. After a while I went to check on them and I heard Kizzy reading but it was only them playing a joke. I told them it wasn't funny. Then I tod my niece to come as soon as she could so i could give her a wonderful present.

DeleteI am Noah, I was talking to Kizzy. We were talking about how the wedding would be. I told her we would have to kiss in front of everyone. I asked her if she has ever kissed any boy before she said no. I deceive to ask her if she wanted to kiss me. She accepted my offer and we kissed, we then ran off with her carrying the basket. I decided to talk to Toby about his foot and how Toby tried to escape. I was listening to Toby. I was wanting to run and figure out what freedom. I told him I wanted to take Kizzy to north to be free. He was shocked what I said. He told me that he will tell me information on another day. Then someone caught me and told me to stop slacking. I needed to talk to Kizzy about the escape. She said she would at another time. I was talking about what day we should go. She did not want to go. She wanted to stay and get married and wanted a kid. I decided to go with or without her. I was captured and thought as a stray. I saw Kizzy and Toby and told them it was me. Then one of the men came to me with his gun. He swung and my vision went out. I was caught and brung back by force. I was whipped hard for a punishment. I was screaming in pain as I kept getting hit with the whip.

I say that we have to use the dogs to track him. I found Noah and he put up a fight he had a traveling pass he did not tell me how he got but he will. I whip him a lot of times. I drive Kizzy to Tom Moore.
Hi I am Kizzy. I am Bell and Toby’s daughter. Our owner is Doctor Reynolds. I like this one kid named Noah and just a couple of days ago he kissed me, and I was in complete joy. Then, I got even happier when I heard Missy Ann was coming home from four year of being away. I was talking to my mom about how she taught me how to write my name, but then she got very mad at me. She said that only whites know how to read and write and that blacks don’t and should never. I thought that wasn’t fair. I just completely forgot about all this stuff going on when I saw Missy Ann’s wagon in the distance. I couldn’t believe we are friends. My mom said that since she is white and older that she won’t want to hang out with me anymore. I didn’t believe her. When she got to the house I was super happy. She said hi to everyone and then came running to me. She called me a perfect little doll when I was little, and now she said that I am too grown up for that name. I just am really excited that I get to see my best friend. I just knew that my mom was wrong and that I was right. Missy Ann will always be my best friend no matter what. I just wish my mom would be on my side for once. I just have to go with the flow and be my cheerful self and not care what others think of me. I love who I am and nobody can change that. I can like a boy and have a best friend that’s white. And that is what I thought until it all changed. Noah ran away to try to be free, and then he was caught and was whipped. Missy Ann said she would buy me as a slave and we could be friends, but then I was sold for breaking the rules which I didn’t. I was separated from my parents and I just cannot believe it. Missy Ann didn’t even do anything to help me, and I feel like she tricked me. Never trust anybody that you don’t know completely.

I am watching two niggas run together. They a re in love. I tell Mr. Ordell that we need a cotton gin. He agrees. Although, he tells me that the buck, Noah, is a strong buck. I do agree. He tells me that I need no such thing as a cotton gin with him. I guess I agree with this. He tells me that I must not sell him, as he is very useful. Days later: I am excited for my daughter to return. It doesn't seem possible. My sister used to come. Now she doesn't. I just walked in on my daughter and Kizzy. I heard her speaking from the bible. Ann tries to tell me that it was a trick. I believe him. I tell her that she must get dressed because I have a surprise for her. She says ok. I leave, telling Kizzy to unpack Ann's things and no more tricks. Days later: I am sitting with my guys. Listening to John telling me so whoo. They are speaking of nonsense. I give him a look. He stops. I tell him to continue on. He says all the torture that the blacks do. Kizzy interrupts us and tells me that Ann is ready to go. I wave her off. He tells me that she is a fine bitch. I lead Ann down the stairs. She says goodbye to Kizzy, Belle, and then Kizzy again. She must love Kizzy if she had to say goodbye twice. She has spent lots of time with her. Days later: Ordell tells me that Noah has runoff. I think he has only escaped to another plantation to see a girl. He says that the only girl he loves is Kizzy. I believe him. Days later: Ordell is back with Noah. I am surprised. He tells me that he put up a fight. I believe it. Days later: I must talk toToby and Bell. I tell them that they must follow the rules. They agree. I lead them to the kitchen. I show them the pass that Noah used. I tell them Kizzy is being sold. Bell tries to beg, but Tom already owns her. They hear her screaming outside. They run out there. Ann tells me that Kizzy is as stupid as the rest of them. I thought she cared about her. What did she do? Has she never been her friend? What is going on?
I am Ann Reynolds a white woman. I rode up to my dads land and say all the blacks running up to me. I run up to Kizzy and gave her a hug. We ran into the house holding hands. We giggle and I ask Kizzy what dress to wear. I want to tell Kizzy a secret. I told Kizzy that my great great great grandfather he was the barren. A boy sent me a love letter. I let Kizzy touch my shaking hand. I hug the love letter. I read the letter to Kizzy. I made Kizzy swear on the bible. We talked about are young days. I was laughing and telling my dad that it was only going to be a trick. I told Kizzy that she shouldn't be scared. Kizzy helped me put on my dress. I told Kizzy that she was the most important part. I have to go tell my dad bout it. I walked outside and hugged my dad and Kizzy. I said goodbye to Kizzy and left. I was talking to Kizzy that Kizzy could be my slave. I am so happy to have her. I keep at keep talking about how good it will be. I ask Kizzy if she wanted to be my slave. I told Kizzy that it will be only our secret. I explain why there are slaves and that it is how god wanted it. I heard Toby call Kizzy to go back with them. I watch Toby and Bell run out the door. I watch as Kizzy get hauled away. I talk to my dad that I couldn't have been made more of a fool.

I was talking with someone and we were talking about Noah. He thought that we should get a Cotten gen. He said it does the job of 10 slaves. Then after a while I saw that misiang came to my place. I was so happy when she came back for the first time in 4 years. I saw that one of the slaves were reading. They said that they were kidding but I doubted. I told here that I had here a really good gift too. I was talking to Tom mour. I heard that one of the slaves had ran away. Then within that day they found the missing slave and punished him. I sold cizzy to mour and the run away I just sold to someone. Misiang was sad too.

I was talking to Ordel. I told him my slaves have to obey my rules and obey my laws. I thought about it. My sister never comes and visits me. She used to, but now she doesn't. When I thought about my sister she makes me really happy. I could let her go. My niece came. I was very happy to see her, Kissy was to. Missy Ann, my niece ran over to Kizzy and they gave each other a huge hug. They both ran inside. I walk on them. Kissy was reading out of the bible. I got mad. I don't like them reading the bibles. I told her to never read out of the bible ever again. I sit down with Tom Moore. He told me about the chickens. When I saw him take out that's dusty handkerchief I was disgusted. I would never have a handkerchief like his. When Kissy came in and told me that my niece was ready. I said ok to her. When she left the room, Tom Moore said that Kissy was fine looking. I didn't say a word to him. All I did was give him a smirk. Tom is so much older than her. When Ordel came back with my slave, Noah. Noah tried running way, but they found him. I told Ordel that he had to put up a fight. After I told him that, I told him to bring out the big dogs. I walked away. Ordel came into the room. I said I guess Noah ran off to another Plantation to see another girl. i was confused because i thought Noah was with Kissy. I told Ordel to get Kissy parents, Toby and Belle. I was a little nervous to tell them the news. They walked into the room. I told them that Kissy was breaking my rule. When my slaves break my rules there are consequences. Noah has been told off. He broke my rules so I had to. We are all a family here. All of us. Kissy has broken my rules so I had to sold her off. Belle started begging. She didn't want her children taken again. I told her she broke my rules. I am very sorry. Then we hear a loud, crying scream. It was Kissy. She was going to be taken off. Toby and Bell e ran outside
I came and talked to Kizzy, and she was talking to me about what happens at a wedding. Where two slaves are united and they have to jump a broom into the world of matrimony. Then she said that she had never ever had been kissed, so I kissed her. Then I she left and got back to work. A while later I saw her father Toby, so I helped him and talked about becoming free and going up north to the abolitionists and then I would come back for Kizzy and we could go free and be happy. Toby tolled me that the slave hunters would get me, but I went any way. I talked to Kizzy again about leavening and she said, that she wanted me to stay with her and get married and start a beautiful family, and live on Dr. William Renalds land. I didn't listen to her. Before I left I talked to her one more time at night and she gave me some supplies. I kissed her one last time before I left. When I left I was thinking about it was the right choice, and I thought what would happen if I got caught. Which I did eventually, but I put up a good fight for those slave hunters. They dragged me back to my land, and wiped me till my back was rough. Then they sold me to a new owner.

I love talking to Kizzy, I think I can consider her as my friend. While I was talking to Kizzy, I say my boyfriend talking to many other girls. That's disrespectful. He should be happy with me, he shouldn't allow them crowding around him in a circle. I don't even think he likes me anymore. I told him to leave me alone and he should. I mean apparently he has girls crawling all over him, he can find one if them. He tells me he is taking me somewhere. It better be amazing for what he's done. We walked awhile. I was still quite shaken it scared me, and made me sad. We walked into a place and we saw chickens. They looked cute but very scary. He picked them up, I got very creeped out I wouldn't do that. Then he put them back in their cages. Walked up to me and touched his lips to my cheek. It was very shocking, but sort of pleasing. Then he walked away. I wish he would have stayed longer. My mind was racing, does he like me now? Would he take me back? Would he act the same towards me? I didn't know the answer to any of these. It kept bubbling in my mind. Oh well, I will figure it out sooner or later. Now that my heads pounding goodbye.

I was in the house and I was talking to my wife about Noah. I was telling her that I thought she was going to come in pregnant. Bell said " no I now him " she same in all excited. She stared to right her name in the stove. Bell yelled at her and said to never right or read. I kinda felt bad for her because she was crying. Bell ways sailing that her friend that taught her how to read would change. We all went to line up to see Ms. Ann. Ann is my masters daunter. My daunter gave her a big hug and they went to the house. I didn't really care but I bet my wife did. I really am wondering what they are talking about. I started to talk to Noah. I was telling him thAt I wanted to escape. He said " I love your daunter two much. ". He was telling me that he was going to escape and come back and get Izzy. The white man was listing to what we were talking about. I want the one in trouble though. When I heard Noah say that I thought that he really cares about her a lot, and that is very important to me. When he left I jus keep brushing the horse. I didn't like the idea of my daunter leaving. I don't know what I would ever do.
Me and my daunter went for I ride and I was telling her that we named you that so that you would never run away. We got pulled by whites and they were making sure that we went trying to escape. The white man were beating up more blacks. She started to cry because she was scared that she wouldn't ever see Noah. I felt bad for her because I new that she really liked him. We were in the house and she seamed very happy. She was sowing, and than she stared to we heard Noah start to talk. He was getting pulled my the back of the horse. He was very week and he had to get wiped. We should hear the pain he was having.Izzy was crying and crying. I remember when I was in his shoes. How bad it hurt what it wiped across my skin. I felt bad for my kid and for Noah. The master was telling us that he was selling Izzy. My wife was on her hands and knees crying. When we got out side the man had took her. She was crying and calling our name. I was so sad to think that she will be gone for ever. We were do sad, she was mad be cause she had already lost some one. I was so depressed I loved her we named her Izzy so she wouldn't leave, but she did. I felt so bad for her. I hope that her new master won't hurt her or stuff like that.

ReplyDeleteI talk to chicken Joe and then Sam talks to me about marrying me. Then me and Joe talk about if I should marry him or not. I am met by Mr Moore. I refuse to sleep with him and he slaps me. I ride with Sam and asks him to take me to my parents plantation. I find out that Toby died. I am very sad when I see him dead. I also find out that his last words were fiddler. I have no idea where my mother is because she was sold somewhere else. I try to talk to him as if he was really there. I keep explaining how I will live on his dream to be free. I leave the grave after I cross off Toby and write Kunte Kinte on his grave. Then I ride with Sam back to the farm. I then tell Sam I can't marry him. I watch Sam as he drives off. I am happy that George can make money for them.

Me and George are some fine workers. We got a good pace together. So when Tom told me that I ain't working for no more cock fights I was devastated. Crushed that was a good job to be in my shoes. My daughter is sixteen and I have told her all about here family and grandparents back home in Africa. I think they want to get married, Kizzy and Noah. She will always be my little girl and it is so hard to believe that she is so old. My wife doesn't mind them getting married and she likes him. Belle thinks Noah is just like me. I don't like Noah, but I don't like him. My wife is over protective of our daughter because she lost her other two. We are all prepared to welcome Missy Anne back to her home. Noah keeps trying to talk to me about my foot and how I tried to escape. I tell him about why I wanted to get away and run. I tell him about the weapons they have that will kill you. I realize that was right about slaves that were born here and not. She was also right about how we are alike. I take my daughter out and tell her about why I named her Kizzy. We passed by runaways and Kizzy tells me about Noah running away. I call Kizzy over to get going again. Kizzy tells us about Missy Anne owning her and I don't like it no one has the right to take my child away. They caught Noah I tried to warn him, but he wouldn't listen. The white folks want to see me and my wife. Mr. Reynolds talks about rules and how they sold Noah and Kizzy, we try to get her back. My wife begs for Kizzy back. Kizzy is gone, why Kizzy? I lied to my wife and she is mad, Kizzy left. It has been eighteen years since my daughter was taken away. I won't ever see her again.

ReplyDeleteMy name is Kizzy. Right now I am helping missy Ann what she should wear. Missy Ann is talking to me and what she is telling me is very surprising, but in a good way. Missy Ann is very nice to me. Right now I am listening to missy Ann reading me a letter. I am reading off the bible because missy Ann told me too. It didn't feel right. While I was reading the bible a man walked in and I was worried. I didn't know what he would do but I just went along with everything. Missy Ann told me she had a surprise for me. I wanted to know what it was so she told me. I was so very excited. Missy an was going somewhere and I was watching her leave. I didn't want her to go because she's the only one I talk to the most. Right now I am talking to Noah and it is dark out. Noah left but I didn't want him to go either. Me and papa (kunta kinta) are going somewhere. Two guys on horses just made a gun shot. It felt like we were in trouble I had to show him our passes. I told papa that Noah ran away. I am seeing missy Ann and she is telling me that I'm going to be her slave. That means I will be with her for a long time. Now she is telling me about the girl rights and that's how god made them. I told my am and papa about missy Ann can be my owner but my ma and papa told me that it isn't right for missy Ann to take me away from them. I heard a scream outside and we all went out there and it was Noah. They found him and after that they were hitting him. It was very hard for me to watch. I have just been sold and it is very sad. I got taken away from my family. My mama is trying to take me back she was getting hit by my new owner but she was still trying to save me and keep me. I am telling Tom Moore my name and he changed my last name to his. He was taking his shirt off and I knew what he was going to do. I hit him with the bar that was tied to my arms. When I woke up a lady was cleaning me up with water in a bucket, it hurt and stung. I was picking something up but a girl told me to smile at a guy that was looking at me but I didn't want to she kept telling me to smile so I did to get it over with it. Later my son told me that he didn't want to have dinner because he was going to do something else. I told him that he needs to eat, I made everything that he liked. He still wanted to do something else. I told him that he better eat because he doesn't get a lot of it. I am walking and talking to the guy that was smiling at me earlier. I don't know what he wanted with me. I am talking to mr. Man and he was asking why I kissed chicken George and I told him that he was my son. Mr. Man asked if he could stay at my place I told him no that first time. He kept trying to give hints and see if he could still stay in my place I said no again. As he was walking away and said that he could stay at my place. Later I asked what hi name was. He told me, but he told me him slave name. I have realized that he is very nice and I did like him a lot. He was nice and polite. Mr. Moore walks into my cabin. He slaps me because I disobeyed him, I did not like it. The next day I go on a ride in the carriage. I got to see my dad but I found out that he died. It was a very sad and emotional moment for me.

Sam
He is now pulling in to a ranch. He is a black slave for Stephen Bennet. He drives the carriage forStephen, so where ever he wants to go Sam drives him. He is dressed in a blue suite, with a top hat, and he has boots on. He had is eyes glued on Kizzy the whole time he was there, and watching her. He was thinking that Kizzy was super pretty! He is now talking to her saying "What's you name?". He just picked flowers up from the ground and gave them too her. He asked her "We should go for a walk later?" She turned him down. Him and Kizzy are now in what you may say as a relationship. They were just outside she was picking plants, and he was brushing his horse. Kizzy just made dinner for Sam! He thinks that Kizzy would make a good wife maybe. He is now laying down, and he said "Fetch me some water." She then said "I will right from the bottom of the barrel so it's cold." Then she went over, and dumped the water on him! He is asking her what's wrong, because she started crying on him. They were laying down, and went to bed together. He heard Chicken Gorge Kizzy's son talking about him so he came out and said he would never leave her. He asked Kizzy if she would jump the broom with him so they can be married! He thinks it is a good idea to get married. Him and Kizzy are on a carriage ride, and she wants to go where she used to live too see her parents, and tell them that she is getting married. But when she gets there she finds out that her dad died, and her mom got sold off to a different slave owner. He feels really bad that her parents are dead, and she asked them to leave so she could be alone, so him and some one else left her alone they went on a walk somewhere. He came back to talk too her and told her that "They should head back before it gets dark." They are heading back and he's calling the horses "you lazy beasts!" His master just freaked out on him, because he told him to have the carriage home before dark! He is now done with the horses so he came in, and he asked if she wants to come still, and she said no! He really wants her to go but she said "They are just to different!" He said he saw the Master down at her cabin, and he didn't come down to help her. She is really mad, and sad so she told him to leave. He feels that she is just a big wreck ready to explode with anger, and sadness! Sam and his master just left Toms house and they are heading back to theirs. She was just watching them leave, and he was watching her like when he first layed his eyes on her.
Episode 4 Kizzy
ReplyDeleteNoah is a cute boy, I know he wants to talk about jumping the broom with Noah. Missy An is coming to the farm and she is my best friend. When we were kids we played school and she taught me how to read and write, but mother was very upset. She slapped me in the face. She told me that slaves were not able to do that and we would be sent off. I didn't want that to happen so I will not do that again. On that day Missy An came and when she saw me we ran into each other's arms and we held each other tightly. Then we both went inside it has been a long time since I was inside. Missy An told me to read the bible and I read it then the master walked in and I almost got in big big trouble. Missy An said I would be able to go with papa to the farm. We were traveling and we ran into the petrol and they wanted to see our papers. While we were on the road we ran into MissyAn and she told me I might be able to be her slave. I was so exited. When we got back we found out that they found Noah. Then I was being sold away. When I got to my new place I was being raped. It was the worst thing worst thing ever! When I have a child it will be a boy. The master will get what the deserves. Been a couple of years since I came to the plantation and I had a healthy baby boy. Sam the driver is asking me to marry him and I am abet shocked. My son is very up set, but he says that he wants me to be happy and I held him tight. We were on the road and I wanted to see my parents so Sam drove me to the plantation but when we were there I found out that my daddy died and my mother was sold away.

My name is Tom Moore, I am a chicken farmer. I am talking to Dr. Reynolds. I think that Kizzy is a nice slave. I now own Kizzy as my slave. I want her that cabin at the end. I just met Kizzy. I like Kizzy. I like to bargain young black women. I am watching chicken George fight his chickens. I am eating with Steven Bannate, and talking to him. I offered him a slave. He said he is about to retire. I am going to take a walk with a sacar. My wife said don't catch anything on my walk. I visited Kizzy last night. I am telling Mingo that he can't come to the cock fight, because he is to old, and can't be a chicken fighter anymore. So just me and George are going to the chicken fight.

ReplyDeleteMingo works for Tom Moore and he helps chicken George how to train chickens. His job is to raise chickens as to cleaning them, collect eggs and harvest the older chickens. He works with George at chicken section for a job as a slave. He helps chicken George, training him how to take care of chickens. He loves chickens as much as George and can't drive the chickens to another area because mr. Moore thinks he's weak and too old. He lost his job for chickens and gave his hat to George. He feels really upset about leaving is chickens because Mr. Moore thinks he's too old to tame chickens. He believes in George, he believes he can do as well of a job as he did when he was young.

My beautiful baby girl Kizzy is just like me, but a girl. She is in love with noah and it discuses me I tell you and I mean it. I can't believe Noah he wants to marry my child. I can't believe this. Now he wants to run. Like I did. He will get caught and my Kizzy will be hurt. I'm teaching Kizzy about the north, east, south, and west. Almost got caught bye slave catchers. My baby is gone. I will keep this sand no matter what she will come back, or not. I just want my baby girl back. That's all I want Kizzy back. Can I please have my child back, Alah Jesus who ever help me get my baby back. I know that she is gone now and I wish that Noah never came so she will be back, or she never gave him those passes. Oh Kizzy please come home baby girl. Well my days are coming to an end and I fear I won't see Kizzy and I hardly get to see Bell anymore I really miss her and I wish we died together but we don't have each other anymore.

ReplyDeleteI am teaching my daughter to ride a horse and some words. I think Kizzy and Noah are going to jump the broom. I think that is not to be done because I hate Noah. My wife has scolded Kizzy because she was writing her name and that little Ann taught Kizzy how to read. Noah wants to know how to escape and he told him that there is no such thing as running away. Noah doesn't know what freedom because he was born here. We are heading to the missy Ann's place and we get stopped. So we show them our traveling pass. They have taken away my daughter because Tom more has brought her and taken her away.

I'm cooking and Toby and I are talking about Kizzy and Noah maybe jumping the broom. Toby is afraid of Kizzy coming home with a big belly. Kizzy is talking about Mary Ann Reynolds coming back. Then she looks down and writes something on the ground in the dust layered on the ground. She tells me that Missy Ann had taught her to read and write, so I slapped her and told her that if the masters found out that she could read and write that she could be sold off and never see her father or I again. We are standing outside with all the other slaves on the Reynolds plantation, we are all waiting for Missy Ann to come home. The slave woman standing next to me starts talking to me about Missy Ann, maybe being Doctor Reynolds daughter, I say no and that, that kinda talk is just slave talk, but that it could very well be true. Everybody is so excited to see Missy Ann again. The wagon is real close to us now, when the wagon stops right in front of us and Missy Ann gets out. The rest of the slaves and myself leave and return to our chores. All except Kizzy who goes to Missy Ann's room to help her unpack all of her luggage. Kizzy and I go out side to see Missy Ann off. We each give her a hug, and wave godd-bye. We hear crying out out side. I say "It's Noah." We go running out side. Noah is being dragged behind a horse. We go in side, and Kizzy and I go in side and she crying on me. We hear some one come in Master had called upon Toby and I. We both go into Masters office. He tells us that Noah gave in and said that Kizzy forged a traveling pass for him. And that she had broken the rules and that means that she will be sold off.I get down on my knees and beg and pled that he sell Toby and I be sold with her. He tells us that she has already been sold to Mr. Moore. Just then we hear screams outside.

I can't believe I got a chance to go back to Kizzy's land! She has grown up so much. Everyone has changed since I have last been here. I want to see if Kizzy can read still. It has been a long time since she has tried I think. I found the exact same thing she read a long time ago. She was reading it can. Uncle William came in. I convinced it that it was a joke. I can't believe that he believed it. Thank god he did. Kizzy would have to leave if he didn't. I offered to bring Kizzy to my land so I could own her. I don't think she wants to leave her mom and dad. I wish I could stop them. Poor Kizzy. But she is as stupid as all of the others.
Hello I am Mr. Doctor Reynolds, I let the blacks go where they want and if they come back and if they don't run away they don't get sold. My nephew came back to see me it's been four years science I saw her last. My niece is very happy to be with me and Kizzy and all the other people she knows. I walked in and Kizzy was reading you don't want me to tell your mother now do you.I forbid it so I told Kizzy to finish unpacking my nieces stuff. My dear niece get dress and come down stairs I have a presents for you. I think Noah ran off to another plantation go find him with the dogs do what you need to do. I was talking to Kizzy's parents and she just got sold her parents where very upset at me for selling her. My niece feels bad about Kizzy being her friend because she helped Noah escape when every one was inside sleeping. I feel upset for my niece because she lost Kizzy.

Any blacks escape they will regret it. They she'll listen to there own slaves. I feel like we can make great baby's with Kizzy. They well be strong. I like Kizzy. She's a fine women. And now she's my slave. I can do whatever I want with her. I live in a farm. Slaves should be treated the way whites treats them. I feel like I'm the king and there my servants. They do whatever I say to do. In the farm If they don't listen to the orders. They will always have a consequence weather they like it or not . It's not the life they want to live but they will live with it. This is the life they will have forever. Kizzy will be married but I don't care because I want more baby's. I want a son like George. I walked up to Toby and told him that I was looking for him. Them I walked for with Kizzy and we talked about a wedding. Then we kissed. Then we kept walking. Toby and I were talking about not running away. They were in the barn and I told him I would make it all the way to the north. Then I will come back and get Kizzy. A man came in and told I in the worn place. I had to talk to Kizzy and she seed that she cold not talk. I told Kizzy that I had to run to night and this mite be my only chance. I know there were people caching runaways and killing them. Kizzy they should stay. I was cot and my momma was sad. I was getting the wip to my back. O that did not feel good at all. I was sold off because of what I did. I guess Toby was rite and I was worn. I should have stayed so I could still be with Kizzy. I feel so bad now I can't be with Kizzy any more. She prolly being sold to a nether man. She may never see her parents because for me. I shooed have never ran off like that. Now I am being punished by not being able to see Kizzy and my family ever again.

I what to run away to the north and come back for Kizzy but Toby says its crazy but I have a knife but he said white people have knifes guns dogs horses I went and talk to Kizzy i told her that i don't have much time but all she said was we have plenty of time. I'm going to run tonight I'm ready there might never be another chance like this again . I ran away last night I have to stay away I ran away I and a slave catcher caught me I I fought back but I coulded get away they chained me to a horse . They bring me in the barn and I got wimped and wimped again again the wimp cut my back against wood then I got sold to someone And they took me away I'm going to miss Kizzy I loved her now I'm never going to see her again.

I was helping my dad with the horse. And we were chatting. Then I went out for a walk with Noah. Me and Noah were mimicking what my mom and dad did at there wedding. Then. Noah and I kissed. He wanted to. And I have never kissed a boy before. And I kissed him... I had just heard great news. Missy Ann was coming back! Four years ago she left. Now she is coming back!... My mama hit me. Just because she saw me write my name. Mama said if I do anything like that again, I will get sold.... Missy Ann just arrived! Missy and I went into the house. She wanted to know what she should wear. But I told her to wear both dresses.. Now Missy was reading me a love letter she said she got... She gave me a book to read. I told her I couldn't. Then I started to read. Then she dad walked in. He heard me read. I was frightened. I thought he was going to hurt me. I was afraid... I walked in on Tom Moore. He was saying they would take us lacks. And skin us alive...Missy Ann said told me she was going to take me and my papa with her so we could come wi her to stay at her place for a while.... Me and my dad were heading to Missy Ann's house. Then we got stopped. But they let us go... Now Missy Ann said that I could be her slave. She said that I would have a room right next to hers.... He told me everything will be all right. He also told me that Sam isn't always who he seems... I was just about to go to bed when I heard a noise at the door. It was Mr. Moore. I had the nastiest feeling on what he was going to do. Then he slapped me... I was on a ride with Sam. I was going to my home. But when I got home, papa had passed away. And mama had been sold off. I was so sad. Then I sat next to my papa's grave. I told him about George, and that I am going to get married. And have more children, about freedom. Before I left his grave, I wrote Kunta Kintie.... When we arrived home, we were yelled at by Sam's master. He told me he would deal with me in the morning. I felt scared... I was back in my house, then Sam came in. We were talking. And I told him that I couldn't marry him. When I told him that, he said he would do anything. Then Sam saw the Master come in. And he knew. But he didn't stop him. I was do mad. I told him to leave. Then. He left.. I was in the garden, and George cam up to me very happily. And he said very very interesting things. I was very happy.
Toby: I am teaching my daughter Kizzy how to speak in African. I'm proud of her because she is learning so fast. Kizzy and I are driving to Missy-Anne's farm when slave hunters comes over and tries to kill us. I am calm because we have traveling passes but then when Kizzy won't grab them right away I get a bit nervous. Kizzy tells me and Bell she wants to go and be Missy-Anne's slave, and I freak out. I am so mad because I named her Kizzy and that's means stay put, and she didn't stay put. Mr Renalds calls me and Bell into his house and tells us he sold Kizzy. We heard her yell and we run outside to see her getting taken away by Tom Morre. I'm feeling very sad that they took away my daughter, but mostly angry at her for breaking the rules and getting herself sold. I died many years after Kizzy left, and I am always with Kizzy. I can tell Kizzy is depressed about my death, but this kind of thing happens all the time.

I was in the barn with master and gorge and some other person I didn't know. we were showing someone the fighting chicken how good he was. he was impressed. i was having so much fun with the chickens. then eventually we were done showing him and we left. i went back to my cabin. then in a couple days I went back down to the farm. I was having so much fun me and gorge were playing around with all the chickens and master walked up. I was very happy to see him. Then he started talking and told me I wasn't a chicken master any more. I was so sad I started to cry. I was begging him to let me stay as a chicken master, he said the gorge was going to be a chicken fighter. I was sad and I was freaking out about it. Then Tom just left while I was begging for my job. I took off my hat and was about to through it. Then I told gorge to take my hat and wear it since he was the chicken master now. He was refusing to take it. I was yelling at him over and over again to take it. He eventually took. I said good by to him and I took off running out of the barn. I went to my cabin crying and I eventually fell asleep.

He was calling me mr ordell. He is telling me that we need rules. I said if they break your rules what Is going to happen. He said we will have to see. It is like a white women plantell. I was stunned when I saw Noah in the barn I was mad at him he was not supposed to be in here. He said I was helping Toby but I didn't Believe it. I told him to get out of here because he was breaking the rules. I am poring Tom a drink and he was telling us about slaves and about money. I said he heard the news about nana. He pored him self another drink. He was kinda gross he was blowing his nose around the drinks. I grabbed my hat and walked with him and said goodbye. We should go track that boy Noah who Kizzy likes he says I could go and catch him says William. He has put up a fight but I finally got him. I brought him to the barn. I as whipping him in the barn he was screaming and I heard people crying outside I whipped him for a long time. I walked into Toby's house I said he has to go to Williams house. I tied her up and I pointed the gun at bell to get away. Kizzy was screaming for the whole ride there it was along ride but she was still screaming for her parents.

I told him if he stayed he would stay alive if he left he would be deaf. I told him they have many things that will stop him. He is very prompt so I told him I would help him and tell him everything I know. I was on a ride with Kizzy and to men approached us on horse asked us for our traveling pass. I told Kizzy to give it to them she did. I got back to mr. Renalds we heard screaming. It was Noah they captured him and whipped him. Me and my wife were signaled to go talk to mr. Renalds. He said he was going to sell Kizzy. He said she was gone and that was final. My wife was trembling and begging it was no use she was gone. My wife was chasing after her I had to stop her. I was doing an old ritual of my people while my wife was yelling at me, i feel sorrow for her lost and mine. She is gone and so is my wife it is sad that I will never speak to them again.

That girl and Noah are kissing now. Noah is quite the man. I can see all these black people gathering around. What's Noah doing around Toby. He's been breaking all these rules. If he keeps this on, I'll kick him all the way to the south.

ReplyDeleteAll of the sudden I see another black come into the chicken coop. Then master says that Chicken George better stop running around with the chicken before he kills it. Then I told him that he's fine. Then master yelled at Chicken George again and he said its alright Mingo taught me. Master told me and George to put the chickens away. Then master told me to go rest up because I look terrible. I felt devastated. I tried fighting it but I couldn't win. Then George started in. Master was saying how George was the new master and I wasn't. That made me feel even worse. Then George looked at me and said that nobody was as good as me, so I told him that he was just as good as me. Then I gave him my hat almost in tears. He wouldn't take it but I refused to take it back. I then walked out crying because I lost my job and because I was dying. I felt so bad that I walked out with my head down because I wasn't head of the coop anymore so that it why I was devastated. So I walked out of the chicken coop one last time while George took my job. I knew I couldn't trust my master.

My momma was making supper when I walked in. I told her I can't eat supper with her today. She got very angry and told me she made my favorite things. I was putting it down when I heard Master and the white man that was visiting talking about my mama.
I was showing the girls a joke when my girlfriend Matilda came by. She said you stop making fun of my father! She ran off and I chased her. I told her I ain't talking bad bout her father. I say I show her something I ain't shown no other girl. I went to go kiss my mama then I went off with Matilda. We went to the chicken barn where I showed her my babies. That's what I call the chickens here, my babies. I love them. I went back home and before I went in I heard another man's voice. He was talking about my mamas cooking. Then I heard my mom say Sam. I then walked away. I needed to talk to my momma. I didn't like it that my momma is with that Kevin man. He came by and I told him I don't like him and my momma being together. I say you leave my momma alone. He ask her to marry him. I then I say to my momma you go marry him. I knew that we would see each other again for Kevin is a driver. She will get to travel around with him and his master. She said that she will miss me and I hugged her good bye.
Minggo and I where putting the chickens away. Master Moore came in and told Minggo to go to sleep. Minggo said he was fine. I believe him. Master Moore told me that I was ready, I is going to be the best chicken trainer there is. Minggo gave me his hat then walked off. I saw my momma and I ran to tell her the good news. I saw Sam ride away and I wanted to know why. My momma told me they ain't going to get married. Then I tell her about the good news. She say not to trust Master but he's like a father to me. Hello, I am Noah. I am like Kizzy's best friend. I wanted to talk with Toby/ Kunta Kinta. Toby wouldn't let me though. Toby hurried off with his horse. Kizzy and I started walking with each other. Kizzy is talking to me about Toby, her daddy. Kizzy told me how her parents got married. She showed me too. We pretended to jump over the broom, but there was actually no broom when we jumped over it, we were just pretending. She asked me if I wanted to kiss her. I said "sure". She giggled afterwards. I am asking Kunta Kinta (Toby) about escaping. I say " why are you thinking about escaping?" Kunta Kinta is telling me to not run away. I say that I am going to survive, I am going to do it! I tell him I am going to go North with Kizzy. Mr. Ordelle tells me to get out of "there" and not to talk to Toby. I go to Kizzy, and say that I need to talk to her, because we do not have much time left I say. I am with Kizzy. I just want to leave this place, especially with Kizzy. Kizzy tells me she wants me to stay there. I know it's best for me to leave though. Kizzy hugs me. It is time for me to leave now. I know that I will miss Kizzy. I am gone now. Hopefully I don't get caught! If I go a week from not getting caught I will be gone forever. If I get caught in less than a week then I will have to go back. I got caught! O no! I am being dragged by a horse in handcuffs. The patrol brings me into a barn, where I get whipped several times.

I am laughing. Now i am helping a white person. I promised not to tell anyone. I went to get her some lemonade. I was reading. Now she is saying that I was playing a trick on her. My only boy friend is Noah. We were talking about jumping the broom. Then we kissed for the first time, I was filled with happiness and joy. When I got home I was filled with excitement, because my best friend Missy Anne was coming back. I was writing my name on the fire place trying to show off to mama, but instead of praising me she slapped me in the face. It really frightened me. Then when I saw Missy Anne's carriage coming up I got so excited. She gave me a big hug and I helped her unpack. ReplyDeleteToday I suggested to Dr. Reynolds that we should sell the slave Noah. He would bring about enough money to get us one of them fancy cotton gins. It'd do the work of 20 slaves combined! Then he told me that he had a rule where if his slaves behaved, he wouldn't sell them. What a stupid idea! They're merely property ; they have to obey anyway. When I tried to reason with him, he simply said we weren't selling Noah. He makes me feel angry! As I'm watching Noah and the slave girl work in the field, Mr. Reynolds's daughter, Missy Ann, rides up in her carriage. As the slaves rush to greet her, I said to Doctor Reynolds," A white woman's quite a rare sight on this plantation." Then, after night fell, I busted Noah and Kizzy together. I told him if he did anything else, put so much as a single toe out of line, I'd have him sold off!
Noah has run away! I told Mr. Reynolds that of we don't act soon, the dogs won't be able to sniff out his trail. He was silent for a moment, then gave me the word that I could hunt him down. Finding him will give me so much pleasure...

When I get over there I try too ask Toby if I could talk to him but he says if its about my Kizzy I don't have time. I feel like I will never get to marry Kizzy. Then Toby walks away with the horse me and Kizzy run out in the grass field. After we walked around a little bit we stopped and I asked if Kizzy had ever kissed another boy. She said "no you the onliest boy I know" then I said we'll would you like to kiss me? Then we kissed. A couple days later I saw Toby getting some tools from a bin. I came up to him and said I want to know about your crippled foot people say you got it cut off when you tried to escape. Then Toby said I don't know nothing about escaping in only know about chores so if you want to learn how to groom a horse you can come with. So I came with. I asked can you please teach me about escaping. Toby said you were born a slave you don't know nothing about being free why do you want to leave here so bad. But I just have a feeling that I need to be free. I can feel it in my gut. Toby started to to teach me then a man walked in and got mad at me because I am never in the right place and I am never working. Then he kicks me out and gets me to work. A couple weeks later it is at night and I see Kizzy and I tell her that if I want to escape it will have to be tonight because its a full moon and I have all my stuff. Kizzy says that men get burned or skinned alive for running away. Then she walks away, but I decide to leave anyway. A couple weeks later somehow they caught me. They brought me back by tying up to a horse a dragging me back. When they got me back they figured out that I had a traveling pass. Then they figure out that Kizzy forged it. I felt so bad because now she had to get sold of away from her family and it was all my fault.

Mr. Ordel comes to my plantation. We talk about the cotton gin, and how we both think I should get one. He notices Noah and Kizzy and tells me that he is a good buck. I get a little anxious because he is right, Noah is a good buck, but I don't want Mr. Ordel getting any ideas about getting Noah. We also talk about Kizzy and Noah as a couple, and I tell him that as long as my slaves follow my rules.
I am so excited! My daughter Missy Anne is coming home! I walk outside of my house the day she comes and all the blacks are outside waiting as well. I see her carriage coming up the road and I have a smile on my face and I am so happy! She jumps down and gives me a big hug! I hug her bag and she looks so grown up! I have missed her so much! She also runs to Kizzy and it makes me cheerful that she is so happy to be here. Later we will have dinner together and I can't wait to hear about he trip.
Before the dinner I go up to her room and can't believe what I hear. Through the door I hear what seems to be Kizzy reading. I go into Missy Anne's room and it seems to be that Kizzy was reading! I am speechless. I tell her that it is against the rules. Missy Anne and Kizzy tell me that it was just a joke that they were going to play. I am still a bit angry because that would have been such a mean joke. It was better than the results I thought though. I leave the room and wait for Missy Anne and I to have our dinner.
The next day Tom Moore arrives at my house. We have some drinks and we talk about, well chickens. He tells me he is a chicken fighter. He gestures to the drink before he helps himself with more. I nod my head to let him know it is ok. I don't know if I like him or not. He then blows his nose into a towel that he pulls out of his shirt. Disgusting. Kizzy comes out then and tells me that Missy Anne is ready to go. I wish she didn't gave to leave so soon. Mr. Moore tells me that Kizzy is a fine wench. He also tells me that with the new runaway slaves some slave catchers are just burning them, or skinning them alive right there and then. I can't stand to think about that. Mr. Moore leaves and so does Missy Anne. I can't wait until her next visit.

Now I'm talking to the doctor and he is telling me how many blacks he has. And missy is here now. And all the blacks adore her. She was very mad, because she also made my five favorite foods! We argued for a very long time. She finally told me to go. I was tending to the chickens and my master and other men were watching me! I am very happy when i'm with my chickens. I laughed at my chickens. I show the chickens to the men and they like it. They start talking and I over hear and get concerned. Then the night has come and everyone goes to sleep and morning comes again. I start showing of to the ladies, and making them laugh! My girlfriend walked over and didn't like that. It was late at night I was gonna go see my mom, I hear her and Sam, then I run away! Early morning I run to my mom and talked of her about Sam. I told Sam to leave my mom alone. My mom was speechless when Sam told her they were going to get married. I was crying I told her Sam is a good man. Then told her she gave me everything she could. She hugged me and told me she loved me, she was crying. Mr. Moore was talking to me about how I'm going to travel the world with him fighting chickens. I am now the new head chicken trainer, because Master Moore fired Ringo, the old chicken trainer. I thank Master Moore for everything. Ringo comes to me with tears in his eyes and gives me his hat. He walks out of the barn. I stare at the hat and put it on. I smile. I yell to my mom about the good news! Told her master made me head chicken trainer! I also told her I was sorry about the whole Sam not marrying her situation. I told her I was going to work those chickens until I can but myself free! My mother told me not ever trust Master Moore. I have never known who my dad was, i kept asking my mom but she would never tell me. I went to tell my mom that I can't eat supper with her because I had to get the chickens ready. She made my favorite dinner, but I still wanted to go and do the chickens. I started mocking her dad, but then she got really mad and yelled T me to stop. Finally, she let me go and do the chickens. I brought the chickens into the ring and they start fighting. Later, I start acting and dancing for some kids around me, but Matilda comes up and starts yelling at me. I tell something while we are walking and then kiss her and leave. I show Matilda the chickens and tell her about them. I love those chickens. She started telling me something, then I give her a kiss on the cheek and she leaves. I go to my house that night and I hear Sam in there, so I leave. I run up to my mom and tell her I need to tell her something. I told her about what I saw the other night. Then Sam comes up and starts talking to us. I tell him to leave my mom alone. He tells us that he is going to marry my mom. He told me something then walked away. My mom comes up to me and tells me she can leave me, but I tell her to go even though I don't want her to go. She starts crying and gives me a hug and I hug her back.

Mrs. Ann Reynolds is coming." Then she is talking and talks a little Mandinkin talk and I yell at her for that because I don't want nothin to happen to her for that. Then Kizzy picks up the paint brush and starts doing something on the floor she says that's my name K...I...Z...Z...Y. The I slapped her across the face and asked her who did you learn that from she said Mrs. Ann Reynolds. You better not do that no more you did that because you were little kids then. She says okay in a teary voice. Mrs.Ann was coming and I'm talking to a fried. Then I help out mrs.ann because I needed two.
We were siting in or table when a guy told me and Toby the master wanted to see us. Master told me and Toby that Kizzy had to be sold. I was crying and crying and begging. I was on my knees saying do anything but that please don't do that master please don't i sat there crying when i heard a scream it was Kizzy. I watched Her be carted off I was in tears screaming no. I was going outside when I found Toby right outside. He was telling me why he came to where I lived now. Then he kissed me. He then told me that he could not stay here much longer anymore. He told me his plan too. Then next morning he told me to run away with him. I told him I do not want to go. He kept on asking but I said no no matter what. Then they herd us and he started to run off. Two men on horses chased after him. After that I did not hear of him. I kept on crying after that and kept crying for hours. I thought that they killed him but I doubted that he died. I was wondering how he is now. Is he hurt or was he fine or killed. Then when I was working I found out that he survived. I knew that he might never walk or he might walk someday. After a while I found out that he can walk again :). .

ReplyDeleteUvijek sam slušao kao crni rob, a gospodar nije imao razloga da me kažnjava. Zabavljao sam se s Kizom. Često se susreo u dvorištu. Često smo se sretali noću i ljubili.Skinuo sam svoju staru košulju jer sam bio fizički lijep i mišićav, a ja bih joj pokazao ruke, grudi i ramena, a u desnom uhu imam mindjusu. Kisi me pogledao s entuzijazmom. Susreli smo se i ljubili jedni druge noću. Pitala sam je je li nekad voljela nekog drugog. Oglas je da nije voljela nikoga prije mene. Jednog dana smo planirali skočiti na metlu. Razbio sam se s Tobyjem. Želim pobjeći na sjever i biti slobodan. Toby je odgovorio i rekao da nije dobro uhvatiti se. Ali ostao sam ustrajan u bijegu. Ordell g je vezao i stavio na kolu i odvezao ga. Ja sam bila crna žena, sluga gospodina Rinoldsa, hteela me je njegovviti vlažni plahtama, ali ni mogla, jer me je moj novi gospodar, već preuzeo. Iako sam ležao na kolima s isibanim leđima i svaki pokreti tijela i izazivao mi je bol, uspio sam da stojim na rukama i ponovno pogledao plantažu gospoda Reynoldsa i moga doma koji nije bio u odlaganju dok su kola odlazila. Znam. Nikada više neću vidjeti Kisi, a ni moju porodicu.
