Episode 1

Synopsis of Episode One:
In the first episode of Roots, we meet two main characters: Kunta Kinte, a young boy growing up in the area of Gambia in West Africa, and Captain Davies, the new captain of a slave ship.

Kunta Kinte
We meet Kunta Kinte as he is born, grows up and goes through manhood training. We learn a little bit about what his tribe believes and how they live. Soon after he goes through his manhood training, he is captured by slave traders and taken aboard a slave ship headed for America.
Captain Davies has just become the captain of a slave ship and he is not sure how he feels about slavery. His  First Mate, Mr. Slater tries to teach him how to be a “good” slave ship captain, but it is very hard for the Captain to adjust. He is basically a good man who finds himself doing a very bad thing.

Captain Davies

As the episode ends, Kunta Kinte and 160 other slaves are captives onboard the Lord Ligoneer and are trying to find a way to escape.

Today is the beginning of manhood training. I look forward to this every year. I am able to help our young men on our tribe become the men they will become. This year the boys have a real go getter his name is Kunta Kinte. The first few times the boys were offered to try and wrestle me he was the only one who volunteered. He has little to no experience wrestling so he was no contest for me. I was impressed with his willingness to try, even though he didn't know what he was doing. I later asked Kunta to go for a walk with me. As we walked I asked him which animal in the forrest had the most courage. He responded with a very immature response, the best kind of courage. He changed his response to warthog. Though the warthog is courageous, he is also one of the first animals to fill our pots after a hunt. I can tell that Kunta is very brave but he is immature. I hope that he heeds the warnings that Kintango has given the boys in manhood training.

  2. OJ Simpson was chasing Kunta Kenta because he fell on OJ's daughter, Fante. OJ didn't seem to mad at him. After OJ chased him, he wanted to know his name and why he fell on his daughter. Kunta Kenta said he fell on Fante because he was chasing a bird. When he was chasing the bird he tripped over a rope and he fell over OJ's daughter, Fante. After Kunta Kenta told him why he fell over his daughter, OJ told him good luck finding his bird. Then OJ told him to leave and go find his bird. When Kunta Kenta left, he did find his bird and, OJ Simpson, and Fante carried on with their work.

I have done this trip many times. I respect the caption like a friend. I follow his orders like I should. These slaves are like cattle. They grumble and grone all the time. I thought the caption never dank. He told me he does thinks on this trip I wonder what he does. These blacks are stubborn. Theses blacks are animals. Some times I don't know what the caption talks about.

Once they die we throw then over board for the sharks. These slaves dance like monkeys.
I also have no clue what they are saying. The caption does not do what we normally do on this trip.

Davies thought this would be a quick trip and leave, but he wasn't exactly sure if America needed slaves. As he is checking off the supplies that they needed to keep the slaves from running, he got to thumb screws and was not sure if thumb screws should be used. Davies is demanding to Mr. Gardner 170 healthy slaves to be found or sold. Captain has never seen negro people so he asked one of his crew mates what they were, but it was a bunch of made up lies about them. The chains they used on the slaves were: thumb screws, wrist chain, ankle chain, and neck chain. Captain wasn't happy about the voyage to take slaves. He is worried more slaves die off, he can't get back home. He has captured all 170 slaves and now chained all of them. He does not like the way the slaves are treated and is mad at Mr. Slater the things he is telling him. He doesn't want to throw over the dead slaves overboard to the sharks but he does want the slaves clean. Captain hates this job and regrets taking the voyage. He doesn't like this voyage because it ruins the negro's lives. He doesn't like treating people terribly.

I am Kadi Touray. I have an amazing wife and daughter. My family is African-American. We like to wear jewelry and wear clothes we like. My daughters name is Faunta. We sailed and traveled to this place all togetther. We picked a camping area to stay near water. We got set up and decided to make some food. My daughter wanted to start it. So I let her. She was just to sart when a boy run through our area and run into my daughter. She dropped her cooking stuff on the ground. He just kept on running. I was so mad. I just started to dash after him. I caught up to him and made him come back to the camp area. I had him apologize to my daughter. Then, I had him pick up the mess he made. While he was doing this he told me he needed to get a bird without killing it and without a weapon. So I decided to let him go. I told him that I give him lots of luck getting the bird.
I just really think people need to show more respect. That boy got really lucky. I could have done something much more worse than just letting him go. He needs to be much more careful. I feel everyone deserves respect. I just hate it when people run into and doesn't even say anything.

I am to excited. My wife has just given birth to a baby boy. I must name the baby. What will I name him? I go to hill and yell into the night sky. Now I know. He will be Kunta Kinta. 15 years later: My son is growing. He came to me today telling me that a leopard got a sheep. I asked him what he did. He said he scared it away with his slingshot. I did not believe him. He told me that it was so. I yelled at him, telling him to never go near a leopard. I then showed him my scar I got from doing this when I was his age. A few days later: I just captured my boy for is men training. He must become a man, a warrior. A few months later: Where is my son? I have looked all over and cannot find him! The last time that I saw my son was after I built his hut for him. That was a few days ago. My wife is worried sick. As am I. I have gone out with many other men and have been looking for him, but he is nowhere to be found. My son. Is it my fault? I head back to my hut. I see my wife in the hut. I must tell her. As I do, I see the horror in her face. I feel her pain. Once I am done, she falls to her knees and screams. I want to do something, but I cannot, as I stand with my tribe.

Cunta was to become a man today. I am very excited. But i needed to set him straight. He was walking around like he didn't have to obey me. I told him he was gonna listen to me obey and respect me. I'm happy he is a man but he must not lose his head. It is good that he has more capabilities. Now that he is a man he thinks he doesn't have to take orders from women but I am his grandmother and he will do as I ask. He must obey his mother too. He is a good boy though. And he is strong. I hope his little brother is the same way. To see if he was going to obey me I told him to go out and make a drum for his little brother. He ran along and did it just like I thought he would. But he didn't come back. This had the whole village worried. His father and other village men went out to look for him and the others missing. His father and the others came back with horrible news. They have been taken by those whites. It is awful.

  9. Kunta was supposed to have his manhood training yesterday and he came back and he wasn't as childish as he used to be. I was very excited to see him again but I needed to remind him that he still had to listen and respect his family. Am very happy that he is now a man and I am happy that he is going to more capabilities. I know he is a good and strong boy and I hope his little brother will be too. I tested him by asking him if he could make his little brother a drum, and just as thought he'd do he ran off to do it. But after a little bit he did not come back. His father and other villagers went out to look for him and his friends. They came back with terrible news that Kunta was taken by the whites. I was devastated. It was awefull.

Today is manhood day. I'm going to teach these young people to become men. This is my favorite time of the year. I like to teach these young men. Kunta Kinta is really into fighting me. These other boys are too easy. Kunta is doing very good at this. I'm impressed how far these boys have gotten. I asked Kunta what animal has more courage. He responded with the animal "warthog". The warthog is courageous but it also fills our bowls with food. Kunta is very brave but also very immature. I still hope he finishes his manhood test. I can't believe I got captured. I can't believe that our best boy got captured. He probably should have listened to the rules we taught him in manhood training. I feel so terrible. now they've thrown me down on the ground and I have to stay like this for 3 months.

I am the Wrestler. This is the first day of Manhood training. I am about to wrestle Kunta Kinta. I am going to wrestle a couple of other men in this training camp too, after Kunta Kinta. After wrestling Kunta and the other men, they are all almost passed out. Very tired, looks like I wore them all out. "Everyone has courage though", I say to Kunta Kinta. "I can't teach you everything, Kunta Kinta." I'm totally heart broken about Kunta Kinta. I feel so bad, that he has to live like this and all of these men, and me have to be treated like this." Kunta, Kunta Kinta." I heard a shot. "Kunta listen to me I say." Everyone is sea sick. I hope I don't get puked on." Kunta, we have been chained in her for a long time". Kunta Kinta asks me where the river bank is. I don't reply. I tell Kunta to eat the food, even if it is not good, he needs it. I just want Kunta to survive, and not be starving. I eat my food though. We have to stay in this ship for three(3) months. It is terrible. I am listening to Kunta tell me a story. We are all one village. "Whom is man Tinka?" I ask all the men.

I cannot believe this! My father just put some sort of cloth over my head and I am being brought somewhere. So I have just been brought to manhood training. Just when we got there I was frightened when I got there and talked out of line, and he asked me my name. When the wrestler was here I was the only one to step up, and try to fight him. I got thrown around crazy no wonder I am so sore. Even then I continued to fight him, I tried ignoring the pain. Then later that evening he called my name, so I went out there and he talked to me about courage. I really appreciated that. Then when I went back to where we had to sleep my friends tickled me. Today I was assigned to catch a bird using only my hands, and I was chasing it and I stumbled of into a lady, and got hit multiple times. When I was heading back I saw a white man on our native land. So I hid for all my life hoping he wouldn't find me and would leave. He did eventually then I went right back to manhood camp and told them and now everybody is scared. I just want to be a man!

  13. I am here at the first day of the manhood training. I am facing off with Kunta Kenta and I throw him onto the ground. Then after I defeat that person, I stand in the middle of the group, cross my arms, and wait for someone to volunteer to face me. I made all of the boys very tired. Then I see Kunta Kenta panting and I ask if he caught the bird. Kunta Kenta said no and I told him this: "I can teach you anything, but I can't teach you courage. You are a warthog, and are very strong." Then when we were captured by the whites, I said to Kunta Kenta:"There is no trail in water. I can hear shouts and music up above us." Then a bit later, the whites serve all of us slaves this yellow glop of food. Kunta Kenta leaves it alone, and doesn't even touch it. I said:" You need to eat your food! A warrior must eat his food to be strong! Even thought it is white man food, you should eat it to become stronger and to be able to fight them.

  14. Mr. Gardner was a man that does not care about how the slaves felt. All he wanted was money. He took the black, and put them on the boats to ship them to America to be sold and bought as slaves. He gave the captain of the ship a place to relax why he caught slaves. He told him he will go and catch many and buy some slaves. He watched as his blacks that helped him did the work for him. He locked the slaves in cages and put them in chains until they were put in the boat. He was planning to catch more than 170 slaves to put on the boat. He went into areas to look for slaves. He found many and let his black capture them. He laughed at them struggling knowing they were not going to escape. He then went and put them in cages. He put the cages near the boat and watched them carry the slaves into the boat. Knowing that they were just animals to him.

  15. Mia angeloAs I snuck up on Kunta Kinte, I thought that he had heard me, but he didn't! So as soon as I got into his hut, I started to whack him with my stick to get his attention. I stopped, and we went out into the sunlight. He was a man, a warrior, and I knew that. Just because he was a man, does not mean that I shall treat him like a man. I told him that he must respect me. I also asked that since he is a man, what he plans on doing. He said that since he is a warrior he will do what he pleases. I suggested that he make a gift for someone. I told him to make something for his mother, who he had just left, since he is now a man. He told me that his father was going to create a shelf in their hut. Then, I said that he has two brothers who would live a gift. He said he would make a drum. He said he would go out tomorrow, and look for a hollow tree trunk to make the drum with. After that, I walked away feeling very successful.

I am the wrestler. Right now I amateur manhood training. Kunta Kinte was the first one to face me. He didn't succeed. After him I waited for more people to try. They all started coming after me like a heard of buffalo. I defeated them all. When I asked if Kunta had gotten the bird he said no. He was panting like a maniac. He said that the white men were here. When I was captured, along with Kunta Kinte and Fanta, we were treated like animals. We boarded the ship and when I woke up, we were under the ship. Everyone was screaming and yelling with terror an pain. When Kunta wouldn't eat his food, I told him that all powerful men have to eat their food. He said that when he eats it it makes his stomach turn up. I knew how he felt. Mine did that too. When they splashed us with the salt water, the pain was unbearable. We screamed and screamed until they stopped. When we had gotten back under the boat I made a plan. We were going to kill the white men and survive. There are at least 170 of us, and 60 of them are woman. The men will fight. I told everybody that even though we are multiple tribes, we need to act as one, if we want to win. I told them all... We will win.

I didn't know how long I was going to be on it. But I knew while I was on that wood thing, trapped, tightly squished, it wouldn't be very nice trip. W had been laying here for days. In filth. I don't think I have ever been in worse conditions ever in my entire life. I saw Kunta Kinti again. But this time. Me and a few moe girls were being taken somewhere...

I was kneeling down. I was scared. I didn't know what just happened. Then. Kunta Kinti came to me. He said a few words. Then he left. Next thing I know what a lot of fighting broke out.

Today is the beginning of manhood training. I was giving a speech to the children about there rights and what they will be doing for their training. During my speech a boy named Kunta Kinte interrupted and started asking questions. I told the boys about a man in our village named Wrestler. Wrestler is a big strong man who wrestles the boys, teaching them how to fight back. I called out Kunta Kinte to go talk to wrestler. Wrestler gave him a task to go find and capture a bird alive. When Kunta Kinte came back he told us he saw white men passing with slaves. I had to tell them about the white men, that they are bad men trying to capture us. I warned them to stay away from bushes and tall grass, and to never go out in the woods alone.

Today Kunta Kinte is coming back from his training on how to be a man. I am very excited to see him, but mostly on how he has changed. I saw him arrive at his new house, and could see he was very happy because of the way he was jumping around and how he swung on the wooden post holding up his home. I didn't realize he did not see me until I accidentally scared him. He talked to me as if i was a dog and he my owner. I didn't like this and told Kunta that even though he is a man, he must still listen to his mother and I, his grandmother. Then I had to ask him about what was on my mind. So I asked what he will do as a man? He said what every man says. Find a wife and take care of the tribe. Then I asked if he was going to make gifts for his family. His response then was, "Yes, yes I will go in the morning to gather some wood to make a drum for my little brother." I nodded and heading to my house.

I was on the shore of the beach with my wife and my daughter traveling to a village and I wanted to know if we were getting close but Kutikinta ignored me to try to catch the bird. I was upset that kutikinta did not apologize in the first place.

I feel bad that my daughter got hurt. I said peace to kutikinta and offers kutikinta luck to catch the bird. I was also told by Kutikinta about him going on his manhood journey and that's why Kutikinta hit my daughter. We were preparing food when the rude boy knocked my poor daughter down. I did like the boy and forgave him.

I looked very fancy with my jewelry and long robe. I kinda looked like a very important man or a leader. I really hope that my daughter is fine and that Kutikinta succeeded with his bird. I really care about my family and hope we are getting close to our destination. I enjoyed the brief excitement.

  27. Mr. Gardener
I can't stop grinning. I've fulfilled my job- my mission, what I have been trained to do. Catch blacks, bring them to the ship, make Captain happy. I have achieved that goal. I have seven blacks already, and I just arrived here in Africa. I have to say it isn't the nicest place to be with the extreme heat and overgrowing jungle full of dangerous plants and animals. I'm surprised such mindless creatures can survive. I'm incredibly wise and I have a hard time getting around the green.
Me and my men continue down our invisible trail, where, according to my compass, is heading towards the beach where the captain and his men are coming on the ship where we will load the slaves and bring them back to the Americas.
I noticed before we started sailing that Captain Davies seemed very hesitant about the slave catching. I, of course, didn't mind it because I have been waiting for it since the idea of slavery in the States was even brought up. But I had a strange feeling as we sailed off a few days before him that this mission might not be successful with his dull attitude.
A tree branch slaps in front of my face and I scowl, pushing it away forcefully. I haven't been having a great relationship with the African nature. I am bug bitten and scrapped from the exotic plants.
The blacks keep groaning and screeching, but I block it out. They are useless animals and have no important feelings.
We keep stumbling through, and I hear a bird. A turkey, maybe. I step away from my men and the blacks, listening harder. It squawks louder, and there is some rustling behind a large tree, that actually looks like you could find in the States. I pull out my small metallic pistol, ready to shoot and kill the bird. He looks like something that is meaty, something we could eat if we don't make it to the beach before sundown. I doubt we will have to, considering the water can be heard from here. My mind might be playing rotten tricks on me, though. These plants might be poisonous but I just don't know it.
I see its feathers jumbling around, like its trapped. Perfect. I load a bullet and aim, one eye closed to gain more accuracy. Some feathers float to the ground as the bird struggles. I start to wonder why it is so fearful, but it is too late now. The bullet shoots into the air, making a large booming noise. Except, nothing happens. The bird escapes its predator and runs away, squawking and screaming for its family. I feel a sudden pain in my hand that is holding the pistol, and I start screeching. I throw the pistol to the ground and shake my hand wildly, trying to reduce the pain.
Once it feels better, I scowl at the bird which must be miles away by now.
I catch up with my crew mates and the slaves, and we continue through the forest in silence.

The next day, I go out with my blacks, who have been hired to help me catch more. We creep behind trees and large brush, carefully examining the area for any blacks.
I hear rustling- a shade of brown popping up for a split second in some green. Aha!
"Go!" I whisper to the men, and the young black that was hiding takes off, but we run too.
I take out my whip and we run. Run for what seems like miles, into a field of nothingness. He keeps looking back at us, looking frightened, scared to death. But all it does is make me smile. Another. One more to the group. Another family with a slave. Another thing to do our dirty work. It's great.
We find more jungle, and we run more. I crack my whip a few times in the air, smiling proudly. "Go, go, go!" I yell again.
Suddenly, I loose my balance and fall to the ground, face first. I look up and see my blacks still chasing him. I stand and follow after them, into another feild. I peak out from behind a large bush. "Yes," I whisper to myself.
    We got it.

Mr. Slater is a sailor. I have done this trip many times. These slaves dance like monkeys. I follow captain Davises orders like I should. Once they die they throw them over board to the sharks. I have no idea what there saying. These blacks are animals. The blacks grumble and grone a lot. I respect the captain as a friend.

Today is the first day of manhood training. I decided to wrestle Kunta Kinte. All he was doing was charging not actually wrestling. They were to easy. I told kunta kintay that i cant teach you courage but you can teach it to your self. I am told that Kunta Kinte saw white men while getting a bird. I have been captured by the white men. I am now talking to kunta kinte on the ship. I am telling him that we know you are a man and a warrior but ther is no point in fighting them or the chains. Now he is telling me there is no river banks and no earth. Now we are dancig for the white men. Now i am talking to Kunta telling to eat to be strong enough to kill the white men. I am saying that we will kill the white man and that we will be free. I am asking who is mandinka. I am telling them that we will kill and live and win.

This is the first day of where young kids become men. I must teach them to be what all men must be. I have taken the to training camp ready to train. We must first teach them to wrestle. I have gathered the young kids in a circle to wrestle. Kuntakinte is the first to volunteer. Kuntakinte is very volunteering he would not give up after getting beaten over, and over, and over again. My very wise wrestler has taught him to become a man. Kuntakinte must now catch an animal without anything. Now I must teach them to not kill unless had to from becoming a slave. I have done my job they are now men. The whites are coming! Oh no we must get back to the tribe to help our tribe mates. Lets fight so one one is taken as slaves this is the last thing I want to happen. That would be horrible. Now I need to hurry before they capture us!

Kunta if off to manhood training. He will leave a boy and come home a man. He has returned from manhood training. He got his own hut. His father built it. Kunta kente is nowhere to found! The men have left to search. They have returned and they found kunta kente's sack. We can assume that he has been taken by the whites.

After my grandson, Kunta Kinte, came back from his journey of becoming
a man, he went to see his new hut for the first time. This would be
his first home away from his family. He was very excited about it! I
wore my blue dress and the matching scarf wrapped around my head to
visit him for the first time in his new home. I slowly went inside
his hut and surprised him by swatting him with a stick. We made our
way outside and it was there that I shared my thoughts with him about
being a man. I told him that even if he is to grow as tall as a tree,
I will still be his grandmother and he will still respect me. I was
glad and proud to hear him say, "I hear you grandmother." I told him
that he was a dirty rotten baby when I first saw him and now he is a
man. I also told him that Allah is still considered greater than he
is. I did not want him to forget that. I wanted him to think about
what he is going to do now that he is a man. I thought he should
really think about what this means. I told him that his mother missed
him a great deal while he was away. He suggested building a shelf for
her because he knew she had been wanting one. I asked him to think
about his baby brother and that a gift for him would touch his mother
as well. He said he would look for a tree that he could use to build
his brother a drum. After he shared his gift idea with me, I smiled
because this pleased me. I could tell the thought of building a gift
and giving this gift to his brother pleased him as well.

A boy just ran into me. It startled me so much that I dropped all the stuff I was going to cook. He said sorry while he was running toward a bird. My father must have been watching because he ran after the boy. He grabbed hold of him and got him to stop running. While the boy out of breath father asked him what he was doing and why he ran into me. Than he said "I was sent out to catch a bird without a weapon." My father, OJ said that he would need to go and apologize to me and pick up my things. The boy was pointing and mumbling to the bird and my father. Then OJ said very seriously "Please!" Then he looked up at my father and started walking towards me and said "I am sorry for you not hearing me when I apologized before." And he bent down and pick everything up and put it back in the pot it was in. Then he ran the way the bird went.
The next time I saw the young man. The was in a sell near the beach. I had been captured by the white man when they raided my village. I heard many people yelling and crying out. When I was captured I heard my father cry out. So that's how I saw the boy again we had been treated very poorly by the white man. And where put on a big canoe house. Where we many black people where jammed in to the bottom on top of each other. It smelt horrible and was the worst experience I have ever had my entire life.

Right before he left I told him that he was a bad bird catcher, but he didn't listen and kept running. In my mind he kinda reminded me of my self. Also I new that he was in training cause that was one of the tasks.

    1. Make sure that you state who you are and check your spelling. OJ Simpson is the actors actual name. Kadi Touray is the characters name. You did a good job of writing from the perspective of your character.
What hour do I have you??

  50. I am Kadi touray. Today while me and my wife where fishing a young boy ran over my daughter fanta's fire pit. He was in a rush after a bird and I slowed him down. I told him to apologize. And I could tell he was mad for slowing his bird hunting down. I made him apologize an he was in great anger. As he said it. Then I told him to say it again correctly. Now he left and to get the bird the next day the white man came and took fanta. I am worried, I will never see fanta again.

I have just gotten an order for 170 blacks. This is a very big order for a short time. I have gotten many blacks and, am walking them to the camp. When I hear bird. I decide to shot at it and miss this makes me very mad. But I have to keep going. I have just caught a new young black he fought and ran hard but we still got him. I have gotten my blacks loaded on to the ship. I am now done with that order.Which is a big relief this order was very big. I hope that they pay me a fair amount of money.

  56. WRESTLER
Today is the start of manhood training. I hope that this year the boys will put up a fight against me, but once I see them I know they are not very tough. My leader asks for volunteers and
a boy named Kunta Kintae stands up first. I get in my position and he gets in his and we start. He charges me and I easily throw him down. He tries again but does not succeed. Then another boy stands up. Again I throw him down and it keeps going until I have defeated every boy
and they are all on the ground. I knew they were going to be weak.
Once the boys are resting, I call Kunta Kintae out of the hut where he was also resting. He comes out with a confused look on his face, he was probably wondering why I wanted to talk to him. So we walk and I start to talk to him. I tell him that he has to be a fighter. He has
to learn to fight and be a leader that could rule a tribe. He has to
be tough, and learn the ways of the warriors. We then separated.
The next day the tribe heard very bad news. Kunta Kintae had seen
    white men on the island.
The next thing I know the white men had me captured and I was in a
cage with other black people. I was tied up and so exhausted. I looked
around me to find other cages with even more prisoners in them. One of
them had Kunta Kintae in it! I looked at him, and he looked at me
    back.
"Kunta Kintae." I said to him. He saw me, but did not speak.
The white men led us onto a boat and brought us down under. It was
all dark. They put chains around our feet and hands, and laid us down
in rows. After a while I notice that a few people over is Kunta
Kintae. He is fighting hard not to give up but this place is horrible.
Everybody is puking, pooping, and peeing all over; for we have no
place to go and we are chained up. Even I have puked after eating the
white men's food. I have puked so much that all that comes up is spit.
It is terrible. I am scared and nervous. I'm thirsty and starving.
They slowly take us up on the top deck. I do not know what they
are going to do. But I soon find out. The white men make us dance and
jump. They whip us if we do not participate. They also pour water on
all of us that makes our cuts sting and burn. I almost can't handle
it. Before they take us under yet again I look out and all I see is
water. No river banks, no land. Where have they taken us?
After they take us back under I talk to Kunta Kintae again. He has
refused to eat the white man's food but I tell him he needs to if he
wants to survive. All it does is make us throw up even more, but it is
food. We need to be strong if we are going to fight the white men. And
lately so many people are dying it is unbelievable. When they do die
the white men unchain them and take them above the deck. I do not know
what they do with them then for I have not seen.
During the night, or what we think is night, Kunta talks to me. He
tells me about a dream he had about being eaten by a big white bird,
which resembles the ship and the white people. When he woke up, he is
here. I tell him, and everybody else that we need to stay strong.
Otherwise fighting the white men won't even pay. But everybody is so
weak. I am afraid to even think about what will happen in a few weeks,
if any of us are even alive.

I Feel confident laughs and i tell Kenta that he is like a warthog courage. I like Kunta kinta he thinks he has potential.
I have been kidnapped and I am very sad that Kunta kinta is also kidnapped and is now with the slaves like me. I have called to him and told him my plan but he shouts out and try's to break the chain. I don't know what was happening when they where setting us on deck.
I am really mad and disappointed I call Kunta and I tell him to eat the food so he can be strong and kill the white men. I try to reassure Kunta that it was a dream I tell him that we can take the ship.

After being in Africa for six months a new ship came to my camp. I talked to the captain and he was very bossy. He ordered me to catch 170 slaves as quick as I can. One day after catching a few Africans I saw a bird flying. I tried to shoot it but when I did my gun sprang back and hit me in the hand. A few days later I saw young African in the jungle. I started chasing him and I sent my workers to catch him. I sat back and watched. He got his knife out and stabbed one of them but they finally chained him up he still fought hard but he could not get out. After I got him we had enough slaves. I put them all in cages and had my workers wip them. I got my money and gave the slaves to the captain.

    Kintango
He looks a little bit older than middle aged. He tell the boys what to do and when to do it and how long to do the task for. He is the training camp leader. He is very smart. He was a warrior when he was there age. He test them for their strength. They will be fast runners and they will learn how to shoot an bow and arrow by watching and listen for the hunters carefully with there ears form the sound they make when the hunters go from in the woods when they come to gather. He teaches them to have courage and stamina. They need to know what kind of courage they need to have. If you disobey and order you will be a child for ever in your family and they will treat you like one and not believe you. You must be on guard at all time. Never be alone never be out at night and keep away from reeds and bushes and stay away from the tall grass. Kintango said the white scent to him smells like chicken and he said "the white men are here". There is a ritual they do and they get circumcised. After wards they have a dancing thing they do. Kintango passed them from boys to manhood. He is now making them move out from home and do their own thing now and, behave, and do the right thing from now until they die. He told them to be aware of your surroundings and always watch your back and be with someone at all times and never ever be alone. He taught them how to be one huge tribe.

I Capt. Davies had thought I was just delivering spices one country to another. I thought. I learned that I am also transferring slaves. I am a Christian. I do not believe in this! I put mr. Slater in charge of the below so I don't have to see my shame. We are at the island and I don't even want to be here. I look at the black people and I feel bad for them. What have I done? I hear the screams below my deck. I don't understand why this must happen. I don't want any of this to happen. I do not want any woman to toy around with me! Mr.slater is out of his mind. I will not look at them it discusses me to even look of what has happened. They are making them dance and I can't stand it someone please help them. Mr.slater is always laughing at them tired of it to tell u the truth. I hate working like this I cannot stand this I wish it would just end. This voyage needs to end quick before I get even more sick of myself. I regret doing this job I hate it so much! I wish I was home with my family. They just sent me a girl and I want to be friends. She is scared of the white people and I understand. This is why this will be my last trip.. I hope. I love the sea but I don't want to do this

I am a white, Christian man, and I don't know what I think of slavery. I'm not sure how I got to be captain, but it happened. Now i have 170 slaves on my ship, and I don't like it a bit. Not one bit. Mr. Slater is all for it, and he is my second in command. We are both the opposites, and I don't think it'll work out. But, my mission now is to deliver slaves to America. The whole time, when slavery subject comes, I just get a grim, sick look. The talk about belly-warmers and niggers just gets me sick. I don't know why I'm even in the South. I don't belong here.

We went for three days hungry, hungry, thirsty, stripped without clothes, with short white panties around the hips, barefoot. They tortured us around the neck because they made it difficult to walk. Another white man, armed with a spear, watched us from the side, and we walked until we saw a large boat of white people into which we were loaded and drove to a large boat of white people standing with crustaceans near the coast. They insert the chains connected to it and prepare it for sailing. We do not know where we are headed. Will I ever see my village, Meu and my family again?
